2016 Jeep Patriot - good first car?

Asked by NextFamCar Jun 16, 2019 at 09:22 PM about the 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude

Question type: General

Looking at a 2016 FWD Jeep Patriot for a kid's first vehicle, but don't have Jeep
experience.  VIN lookup says it has a Continuously Variable Transaxle II with a
AutoStick (R) Automatic Transmission.  Anyone familiar w/ this model year &
willing to suggest specific additional things to look for or ask seller about?  I
know it has front disc brakes and rear drums (not a fan of this setup).

Terrible first car. If you buy it, it will probably be your last Jeep. Look for a reliable car.

Bought 2010 Jeep Patriot in 2010, still driving it in 2021. 145,00 km, replaced Throttle Body yesterday ( $180 Rock Auto) took me two hours in back yard. Replaced one ball joint, one battery, oil in CVT replaced at 60k ( preventative mtce) , routine regular other oil changes, one spark plug set change. Runs fine, last 4 years, heater fan sometimes quits when I turn fan down , restarts when I squeeze blower speed control, so -ha- I just leave it on always. Might look into it someday ( $ 300 panel , worse case I think, Rock Auto ). Not bad for (almost ) cheapest all wheel drive suv. Good mileage, about 28mpg highway. With good rubber , Nice little brick through deep snow in winter. Starts minus 40 ( 0 w20synth. winter oil)
