Dashboard brake light illuminated without the brake on

My brake light on warning light is illuminated
on the dashboard and I have not engaged
the brake. I just had the brakes replaced and
that did not shut the light off. What could be
the problem?

The brake light was not on when I picked up the car ... They brought the car around the shop and left it running while I got in and drove away The first time I shut the car off and turned it on again the light reappeared.
