Power draw flattens battery

Asked by Rick Mar 08, 2016 at 06:23 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet Venture Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The van will run on battery the
alternator not charging
however the interior dash
Shows battery lite on also the
instrument fule gauge
headlights ect will turn on and
off. I believe there is a short
somewhere can anyone help

how tight is your serpentine belt? make sure its not to lose. also if you hook up a miltmeter to the battery on a dc 12 volt setting with the engine off it should read around 12v start your van and go look at the meter again it should read 14V if alternator is good

The easiest way to check the alternator is starting it then disconnect positive cable and if it dies, that is the answer
