What year is my engine?

Asked by GuruWV2B1 Apr 30, 2018 at 01:09 PM about the 1967 Volkswagen Beetle Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I inherited a sand rail, but wasn't given much information when I got it. I've
come to believe the engine is probably a 58-67 VW. Its a single port air
cooled engine, but I think the carburetor is not stock. The stamp on the back
reads Zundfolge 1-4-3-2 (I understand this as the firing order), and inside the
oil pan are 311.101.373A VW 136. The stamp on the bottom sides both read
2D0 VW symbol BRAZIL 27 Audi symbol 043.101.101A AS41.  By looking at
the picture, can anyone tell me what exact engine/year I'm looking at? Also,
I'm trying to prove the year to the DMV, so can you refer me to how you got
the info? Thanks in advance!
