How do I get the top to go up on 600SL?

Asked by Allen Aug 06, 2017 at 03:53 PM about the 1993 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 600SL

Question type: General

Sporadically this happens.  Sometimes after a while the computer may reset
and I can put the top back up using the button.  The manual has a manual way
to do it, but references a tool that I do not have.

Absolutely... get the tool. Even if you get the top working the way it should, one day it will fail. Unfortunately, when you drive an $80-90k car, when it is time to repair something that is what you are repairing. If it is over your budget to have it professionally checked I would suggest getting a less expensive MSRP car. Poeple buy $100k cars for $30k-$40k and don't realize when it comes to repairs, to the dealer, it is still a $100k car.

Try resetting your driver window control module by lowering and raising the window again. It wouldn't hurt to perform the same process on the passenger side. If that doesn't work you may need to perform a hard reset on soft top control module. The manual tool is a thin open ended 1/2'' (or the metric equivalent) wrench.
