When starting my car, it sometimes doesn't start. It turns over so it is not the battery. If I give it about 10 seconds and try to start it again, it starts! What is the issue?

Check air filter and clean throttle body replace fuel filter if have not done so in a while add fuel injector cleaner to gas tank and use the middle grade or high test gas to help clean out the gum and carbon build up.
charliebravo answered 9 years ago
Do you think it could be an electric issue or the starter even?
firebird338 answered 9 years ago
Vehicle is cranking over so its not that starter and far as electric it does start eventually so it's more like the fuel injectors are dirty or clogged air filter trying to suck air through the dirty filter or partially clogged fuel filter trying to force fuel through the filter.
I am having the same issue. My car wont start up...but after a minute or two it starts up fine. Its not the battery or starter. But it sounds like the battery is going dead, when it wont start up. I replaced the air filter, did throttle body clean, and the fuel filter checks out fine (according to my mechanic) . What else could it possibly be?
Can anyone please help? I have a 08' Honda Accord
I'm having the same problem with mine now. Did you find out what the problem was?
Same issue here. Anybody figure this out? Just had the body throttle cleaned and 1500 miles later it's back at it
Check the crank case position sensor. Expensive sensor easy to change. Causes the car to crank over several times before starting. Idles smoothly, in some cases will not let the transmission shift properly; almost like its hung in overdrive. The rpm' s will not increase over 3000 and the car will jump and buck at times. Check engine light will be on and it will give a code for ccps malfunction and misfires on 2 and 3.
Hello, You described my cars problems. Just bought the sensor and plan to install Asap. I seen other videos were there is a "relearn procedure" with the crankcase sensor. Thanks Edgar
My 2005 Accord has the same issues I've installed a new fuel pump, injectors, coils and bothvrelays the one for the pump and the one for the fuel injection . I spoke to a specialist and was told that It's my starter . wich is common on Hondas . I was told the starter might seem fine but it's not turning fast enough to crank the engine to aquire the propper cranking power to get cumbustion . I've tried everything already so I'm gona change the starter . I see that tje crankshaft positioning sensor was mentioned above and Edgar was going to change it . any results ??

hi guys D here from Florida, My 05 Honda is acting similar I had to give it gas to start it which I was told in the past the throttle body wasn't getting enough gas so I cleaned it and it's still not turning over and is making almost a cluncking sound. Any suggestions on what's happening. I think it's a small oil leak as I've noticed on the driveway.
G with 2005 Honda . well I found out what it is Its 2 valves that are sticking clogging up the oil pressure . it has nothing to do with fuel or air . somehow the fuel pressure is regulated by these 2 valves that are sticking . changed them and it starts right up . still a lil rough but Im blaming that on a dirty throttle body .
I have a 2008 Honda Accord and i have changed every part possible, including battery, fuel filter, fuel cap, everything and it still has this problem. When I replaced the battery it started great for a while then the problem came back. I have learned to live with it.
where can i find the acgs fuse for a hond accord 2010
Update on the cranking but no start so the problem is the crankshaft positioning sensor wich was mentioned in this thread earlier. The ( VVT ) solenoid will also affect the starting and the shifting of the transmission. Both the solenoid and the sensor are super easy to replace . Well I figured my problem out . Hope this helps someone
I have 2005 Accord LX. I have similar issue. Batter and Alternator checked as fine. Car does not start once every 2 weeks or so. Lights/ door locks does not work, as if the battery is down. When I get a jump start, it starts instantly. If i stop the engine immediately and then try restarting, it starts correctly, as if everything is okey. One more observation, the jump start resets the clock/ radio of the car. After couple of days the radio goes blank. And then the starting error occurs. After jump start, radio works fine - no fuse blown or other issue . I came to know from some other thread that if there is heavy metal near the key, it impacts the transponder and gives starting issue like this. I will try using only car key (separate from my key bunch) and see result. Anyone has similar issue resolved?
Make sure that when u turn car to on position u see a key light. If not ir car might need to be programmed
I have a 2012 Accord V6 that has a long turn over to start or won’t start at all on first try. This only happens after driving the car and letting it sit for about 40 mins up to 4 hours. If the car sits over night (cold start) it cranks right up. The only way I’m able to avoid this from happening is turning the key into the number 2 position and then waiting a couple seconds (usually when the seatbelt chime stops) before starting. This method starts the car normally.
IVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! I went to the dealer to drop it off and 3 other cars with the same model had the same problem!
What did the dealer do to fix it?
before loading the parts cannon & replacing everything, a good scanner can read the codes and show what the computer thinks is wrong. Maybe the local auto parts store can read it for you. Good scanners ( not just readers ) are $50 or so on Amazon.
My 2008 accord started bucking and not allowing acceleration. This always happened on the 2nd start of the day. First start up was fine. Took it to Firestone and they replaced the ABS computer, shaft sensors etc. to the tune of 4500 and 4 trips. Each time it would run fine for a couple of days and then the same symptoms would reappear. Finally, took it to the Honda dealership and they said the starter wasn't spinning fast enough to get it in sync. Dealer replaced starter and its been working fine for the last 1 1/2 months. Firestone, of course, refuses to refund the money even though they supposedly have a 100 percent guaranty. They keep saying there is no way a starter can cause this problem. I plan on suing them!
If you hear clicking noise, it is the starter. Here is what I did to resolve the issue in my Accord EXL2013. I paid 90$ for complete diagnosis at a Honda Service Center. They found faulty starter. Total Quote was 600$ for starter+299$ for labor. Estimate was ~950$. I took the part number from them and ordered a brand new starter from Genuine honda parts that cost me 275$. Then for the installation, i went back to Honda service center. Installation cost was 200$ as they deducted the 90$ I paid for the diagnosis. So overall repair cost was around 575$ which was way better than paying 950$. The issue has been resolved and I have driven the car after repair for another 100 miles. No trouble starting at all. Honda has a faulty starters in 2013,2014,2015 series. They are fully aware of that but will never accept or recall. This will be my last Honda car. PS: Starters are not covered under powertrain warranty. Don't waste your time
I just replaced my 2009 Accord starter with a "genuine" HONDA starter because I was told by the service center that the aftermarket DELCO starter I put in was cranking the engine too slowly to energize the crank position sensor. I thought they were full of s*** but the engine now cranks much faster and I haven't had any problems so far. So if you have long cranking times, intermittent hot no-starts or crank position sensor codes P0339, CHECK FOR WEAK BATTERY, BAD OR WRONG STARTER OR CORRODED CABLES FIRST.
2007 Honda Accord 2.4L. 150k. Replaced bad starter, cranks very well but the starts became hard. Hard starting was fixed by replacing all 4 injectors. ( all leaked) and one bad ignition coil pack. Everyone here, if you know battery is good and starter cranks but you still experiencing hard starting, please start with cheapest. Spark plugs, injectors and coils. All are easy to do.

You might check your key, sometimes when you try to start it , if you hear like a hissing , electronic sound, and takes several tries to start, your chip key could be the issue

Sometime my 20011 Honda Accord would not start until I get a jump off. What’s wrong?
If you have an after market starter, it can cause the problem. I had the same issue as the 2008 and 2009 Accord posts above. CEL was on, couldn't go over 25 mph. Local shop threw everything at it including a faulty valve adjustment and told me I needed a valve job. I went for a second opinion from a Honda technician. He replaced the starter the local shop put in two years ago with a factory starter, adjusted the valves properly and relearned the computer. I told the local shop the solution. They were embarrassed and refunded my diagnostic fee.

Get it diagnosed first before doing anything but, meantime check all connectors to see if anything is loose like the battery wiring, alternator, and starter. Clean battery terminals if it’s been awhile. A complete ob2 diagnostic should reveal issues with your particular vehicle. I’m on the same issue now and learning to deal with it on a daily basis and mine is a 2015 accord v6. Battery and alternator can be checked at your local parts store. If you do not have issues with the battery or alternator and your ignition just clicks you may have a bad starter. If you replace your starter and issues still persist but with a different issue like grinding noise with the starter teeth’s later then the issue is more complex. Do research on the torque converter. I am convinced that starters should never falling no matter if the part is premium or recondition and it really depends on how many miles you have for example if you replace the starter twice or even the 3rd time in 150,000 miles that is considerably good wear.
AJ8806 I have the same problem! If it's it's from anywhere from an hour to six hours I have to turn the key and let it hold in position to and then it'll start up. You figure out what is the cause?
I have the same problem I think people don’t realize is the way you put your key in the unlock lock button Hass to be facing you if you put the key in the other way it would not start

I own a 2005 honda accord 2.4L engine my is intermittent It has about 75k miles on it and I wouldn't trade it for the world best little car I've ever owned .I've changed the battery ,ignition switch ,alternator check for codes my last job was today I took out the battery had it tested at a near by retailer and passed so I installed it back in .Starts like a charm no problems lucky I've invested on a rechargeable battery booster it really comes in handy .Last I wanted to say was that trust me when the engine light comes on you should be able to narrow down the problem with a code .

until yesterday, i had the same issues, no start, no crank, just the weird buzz when turning the key slowly. it would usually start if i turned it slow, which may have also been because i put it in slow like that one guy recommended. however, it hasnt started since. the last time i got it to start was after my fiance had been struggling with it for a while as its his car, and what i did was turn the wheel to the right slightly (since this would let my old celica start its as if it was part of the steering column lock mechanism to prevent theft without the key or something) and it turned on fine, but ever since he moved the steering column back to his position as im shorter and it hasnt started yet. im gonna try making sure the buttons are facing me to see if that might be it. but i have a suspicion it has something to do with the key chip sensor or maybe the wiring is loose in the steering column since turning the wheel or being careful with and turning the key to the point that u can hear it arcing to try to start the starter would occasionally work. but nothing was a reliable fix. we changed the starter with after market, that worked initially, but then it came back, changed the battery with a new one, same thing worked for a bit then issue came back. gonna try tapping the starter with a sledge hammer to see if its just stuck or something. we have the repair manual from honda, and torqued everything to the proper amounts when installing the starter so i dont think it could be that. and we even replaced the battery ground wire then changed it back later to see if that was the issue, it wasn't. we also tried making sure that all the electronics heated seats, radio, a/c, lights were off when trying to start the car, at first this would help. and at the time i thought 'well maybe its that this battery is specc'd wrong, and too much amperage is being demanded, wearing out the wires and battery itself, which would make sense why jumping it doesnt work with battery jumpers because they won't allow high amperage flow when they don't detect a low voltage battery, the only do it in that situation, even the ones that have the boost button won't do anything if they detect a good voltage battery, so its like its not even attached basically as far as doing anything to go towards jumping it. and the voltage does drop from 12.8-8.8 or 10.8 or so when trying to start it which then leads me to think its the stuck starter again but who knows" this whole situation has been frustrating and thankfully hasnt left us stranded in the middle of nowhere, usually just within a 20 miles of the house, but has required multiple tows home only to end up making us feel stupid when it randomly cranks back up and works again. the last era of it actually starting would involve waiting 4-8 hours or more to let it i guess cool down or something, its been like 45-65 degrees F here lately, and then it would start once. i hope someone has a solid solution and explanation because its a great car, until this. and its sad that honda doesnt seem to want to even acknowledge it when its customer base is mostly drivers who have had hondas before and had so much loyalty. ill try to report back here if it doesnt work. if i don't assume one of these things worked lol. 2012 honda crosstour 2.4L
