Temperature gauge not working and engine fan still blowing when car is turned off

My tempura gauge al of a sudden not working not reading anything and my engine fan keeps blowing when I turn my car off what could be problem
Check the coolant level and check the temperature sending unit.
Did you figure this out? Mine is having the same problem?
I have a 2012 camaro. Temp gage not working, check eng light on and a sign that says AC off due to high engine temp. Recently replaced radiator hose. Car is running at 170° not the norm 200 so it’s not overheating. Chevy says just air in cooling sys. I’m hoping that’s all it is.
Anyone have answers to this? My 2016 camaro is doing the same thing. I disconnect the battery and it resets and works fine again.

Where is the temperature sensor on 2016 camaro rs 3.6

Having the same issue with my 2016 Camaro. After a few short 30 mile trips coolant gauge stops working and fan runs full blast. Reoccurring issue last couple of weeks. Have to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset. Added coolant, which wasn't needed and also replaced relay. Looking for answers.
I am having same issue twice now on my 2016 1SS. Once over a year ago and then today, November 3, 2019. I do not know the cause. I will not take it to the dealership unless I am forces to. Car has over 100 thousand miles and this has happened twice.

I’m having the same issue on my 2016 camaro, today the temp gauge stoped working and the fan won’t stop running! Sounds like it’s a fighter jet!
I have a 2017 camaro and it’s doing the same thing. Temp gauge not working and fan won’t shut off. Did anyone ever figure this out?
No I've not figured it out on my 2016 1SS. Both times I had to unplug negative battery cable from battery and that got the gauge working again. But I have not figured out why the problem occurs. I believe the problem is initiated as part of the start button sequence. In other words, I am doing something wrong by pushing start button too many times, or during something else going on. In other words I think it is some kind of user error on my part. It's still a flaw in the system though. Shouldn't happen.. A bug in the computer code.
I have the same issue, I will be driving & then my 2016 Camarillo SS 2LT will all of a sudden sound like a plane, the temperature gauge will not read & the fan does not shut off. The mechanic that looked at my car (the one time my fan was off) said he couldn’t find anything wrong. My car is now doing this again 1 year later, Has anyone received an answer? Also, I received a notice from onstar diagnostics that there is an issue with my engine & transmission system, right after the fan came on this time.
Just had my car fixed for this same problem. Its a Thermostat that needs to be replaced, even if the car is blowing hot air. Check your AC, that will confirm the issue. If the car is covered under warranty you can get it replaced. If not its pretty expensive.
Gloscamaro.......... I think it's got something to do with the start button and the starting sequence..... I think I probably pushed the start button too many times or pushed the start button while I was also doing something else and that combination caused the problem. I could be wrong of course ....
Has anyone figured this flaw in our Camaro’s. Should be a recall seems like a defect
It’s happening on the regular now. I just keep unplugging negative and it works again. Before I spend money need to know if anyone finally has finally got it fixed. Thanks

thanks to Kat I disconnect the battery everything works ok thanks

any one find out was the problem with the camaro’s the temperature gauge is not working and the fan won’t stop
The problem with most all of your car's is a bad thermostat. It's sticking open and not letting the car get to proper temp. The ecm knows the information is wrong and goes into a default/safety mode running the fans in case of overheat. Replace your thermostat and your issue will go away
GuruRZRMY .........can you tell us how you know that?
20 uears of mechanic experience and I Just went through it with my car. I bought the part at the dealer and got a chance to talk with the shop foreman. He made it sound like it was a fairly common issue, especially when the weather is cold. Watching the Engine temp on the dash my car would only ever heat up to ~170. It's supposed to run ~210. It could also be a bad sensor, but it would happen every time if so and the Guage would never work
GuruRZRMY............. Then it is a different problem than what you are talking about. All the people with the problem on this string say the temp gauge does not work at all when this problem occurs. My 2016 Camaro and every other person on this string, the gauge reads zero -- not working at all. And secondly, not think carefully here, the problem goes completely away when we unplug the negative battery cable. If the problem was the thermostat sticking, then unplugging the negative battery cable would not resolve the problem. Thank you for trying but don't post a false solution on here. If people listen to you, they will replace their thermostat needlessly.
If after resetting your ECM (aka "unplug your battery") the gauge works for a while again then your issue is most likely to thermostat. When the engine is running significantly colder then the ECM expects it doesn't trust the information anymore and turns the gauge off. It also turns on the fans as a preventative for an overheating. If you don't want to actually fix your car ignore my answer and just go on resetting your battery all the time. If you actually want to fix your car, after resetting the ECM watch the temperature while the gauge works and I would bet that it never gets over 160 - 170. After so many drive cycles where the engine doesn't warm up as expected the problem will come back. Thus why it happens more in cold weather.
You basically have two options here, if your gauge never ever works then you have sensor issue or a wiring issue. It is not terribly uncommon for the pins to back out of the connectors and cause intermittent gauge issues. As I said though in a lot of these cases it is a thermostat issue. If it happens more often in the cold weather it is a higher probability that it's only a thermostat issue and not an actual sensor issue. When the gauge works watch the temp if the car doesn't get where it needs to I can guarantee you your thermostat is bad.
Hey ladies and gents, I have a 2016 camaro ss1 also. I have been having the same issue to where my fan stays running even after I turn it off. At first I replaced the sensor and was fine for like 4 months then the issue came up again. I would disconnect the battery and it would go away. I had a mechanic friend of mine check it and when he would turn on my AC, my fan wouldn’t start right away and then shuts off while the AC is still on. I just ordered a new fan so hopefully this fixes my problem. I’ll keep u all posted
I agree with guruRZRMY. I replaced my temperature sensor and after a couple days it has happened again. I am now going to replace the thermostat to see if it fixes the problem
If anyone needs to know on a 2016 3.6 camaro the coolant temperature sensor is under th intake manifold. Front end to the left in the valley. It takes a little work to get there
Also I would recommend changing the sensor first cause it is 10 times cheaper(if you do it yourself). Then if it happens again change the thermostat.
A bad sensor or connection gives a different code when it happens. Can't remember the code number, but it says something like "temperature intermittent" If your operating temp when the car is running only gets to ~160-170 it a bad thermostat. The code that sets is "temp below threshold" I just fixed a second car last night with this problem.
My car ( 2016 1SS / 6.2 liter ) runs at 193 degrees even in the really cold weather. Like everyone else here with the same problem, the problem is that occasionally the temperature gauge will not work at all and the way to get it working again is unplug the negative battery cable for a minute and plug it right back in. No way all these people on here going to coincidentally have an exact same problem with the thermostat that "occasionally" stops working in the exact same manner, with the exact same temporary fix. If the sensor wire just "came loose" then unplugging the negative battery cable is NOT going to make that sensor connection tight again. This is some kind of computer code bug. A bug that makes the temperature sensor / gauge stop working till rebooted. It's a Chevy.
Gmoyevalleyauto answered 4 years ago
Thermostat is bad. Once thermostat is changed the codes must be cleared or the fans will still run wide open and no gauge operation.
Has anyone on here actually changed your thermostat and that change actually permanently fixed the problem ?
C. I changed the coolant temperature sensor and it did not fix the problem! I am going to do my thermostat next and I will updated after I get the part and have it installed. It only took 2 days after I changed the sensor and the issue came back. I have reset my ECM multiple times and it keeps coming back.
C. I would recommend changing the sensor first to see if it's the problem. You cant find it in Chevy part website for around 7 dollars. But I am a V6 so price may vary.
I’m curious if this fixed the issue as well? I took my 2016 camaro 2SS Into the dealership to have it looked at, since it started having issues starting. I was informed by that mechanic my issue was due to needing a new battery. Purchased a new battery - but guess what, my car has decided to do it again, temperature gauge not working & the fan is on ( it is not occurring just in cold weather; it happens when it is hot, humid, or cold) seems like if I am driving more than 30 miles in sport mode it will happen. The mechanic said the car did not show any codes. I’m lost as to what the issue can be but curious if anyone that is saying the temp. gauge needs to be replaced has actually had luck??? Thanks!
My V6 wint get higher than 180. And it should be running at 212. And there are 2 things that can cause this issue. If you want a sure answer get off this forum and take your car to the dealership. It's either a bad sensor or thermostat. There is no code bug or else there would have been a recall by now.
Well that's not really true. Chevy has LOTS of problems they do not do recalls for.. For example, pretty much ALL the 2016 Chevy Camaro SS have a bad limited slip differential and no recall.
I am having the same issue, I am pretty sure that it is some sort of sensor problem. If I disconnect the negative terminal and immediately reconnect it and start the car, it starts showing correct temperature again. If it was thermostat sticking, you would notice overheating significantly. Because the ECM loses power when disconnected, it resets the gauge but when the gauge has intermittent failure, the ECM goes into safe mode again. What concerns me is the fact that those who have replaced the sensor are still having issues. This makes me think that there could be a problem in the ECM or possibly the coolant temp sensor connector across all 6th gen camaros.
I have 2016 camaro 2ss. This is the second time I have this issue. I replace the temp control sensor first time this happened which apparently wasn’t the problem. I don’t want to spend money on a thermostat if is not going to fix the problem.
If your thermostat is stuck open you won't overheat. But it will cause your car to run colder than the ECM is expecting and cause the sensor to shut off. I also replaced the the sensor and it did not fix the issue. I'm going to to my thermostat asap. And I will update if it fixes the issue.
Problem symptom 1 - The temp gauge stops working - no reading at all Problem symptom 2 - The fan then runs non stop Temporary fix - Unplug the negative battery cable and symptoms 1 and 2 go away. Ok now think this through with me. If the thermostat ( a physical device with a spring on it ) is bad and stuck. How is unplugging the negative battery cable going to make that "not stuck"? Since unplugging the negative battery cable causes symptoms 1 and 2 to go away, how can the thermostat be the problem? The negative battery cable doesn't reset the thermostat. If it was stuck, the unplugging of battery would not "unstick" the thermostat. Wouldn't matter if the ECM is reset or not, thermostat would still be stuck.
Because like what was said before. The car is running colder than expected. So after running cold for so long, the ECU thinks the sensor is bad and does not trust it... so it cuts it off to let the safety feature of the fan running high. The issue comes back after resetting because the thermostat is still stuck open and making the engine run cold. Thus it shuts the sensor off. Does that make sense?
Like I said I will replace my thermostat and update. It's not expensive its around 70 dollars for the part. If you are able to do the work yourselfike I do you will save 400 bucks
When do you plan to replace the part? I'll keep an eye out for your update, as this will determine the route I go since this happens every so often and it eventually fixes itself without me disconnecting the battery.
I just got the thermostat today. And plan to have it in within the next 7 days. If the sensor goes off and on like that its not bad. Monitor your temp while driving if you don't reach 212 and stay in the 160 to 190 range you car is not reaching the proper temperature.
I always go the cheaper route first. I replaced the sensor first and it didnt fix the issue it could be either. I would do the sensor first. Then if that doesn't work do the thermostat.
After going to local auto parts store, thermostat is supposed to open at 212°. Mine will never get above 180. Thinking about changing thermostat once I hear how it does
Does replacing the thermostat solve the problem? Same issue. Coolant gauge not working, temperature not registering, engine fan runs while driving, and engine fan runs a good 5 minutes after shutting off the car.
Erica. Its is either your coolant temperature sensor or thermostat. I replaced my sensor and I am still have the issue. Thursday I will be replacing the thermostat and then will update will the results.
Same issue I notice it doesnt happen until I crank an pull off without letting car warm up then its stays on cold engine too high temp warnin an fans come on unplug negative battery end an its working fine chevy camaro 2014 did anyone find out if it was due to thermostat
I will be replacing the thermostat tomorrow. And will update every few days to let everyone know the results. I already did the coolant temperature sensor. And it did not fix the issue.
I replaced my thermostat on Thursday and my car is now reach 208 to 212 range. I have driven about 200 miles so far and the issue has not come back. I will keep updating and if by next Thursday the issue has not come back it will have been 100% for sure fixed. BUT I cannot stress enough that it could be 1 of 2 issues. If you are going to do the work yourself try replacing the coolant temperature sensor first and it is so much cheaper than the thermostat. Then if that doesn't fix the issue it will be the thermostat. If you are going to take it the the dealership to fix. Let them diagnose the issue and fix it. I do the work myself because I'm not going to pay someone almost 600 dollars to replace a 80 dollar part. Plus I love working on my car.
I have a 2016 V6! Another update: it have been almost a week and my car has been running normal again since I replaced the thermostat! I now feel I can safely say in my instance the thermostat was the issue. If you can mechanically inclined and know what you are doing it should be no issue changing out. It is in a bit of a tight spot but it is able to come out with some patience and manoeuvring! You can get the temp sensor and the thermostat for around 85 bucks. You CAN haggle with dealerships on prices with part. Just go to chevypartsdirect.com look up the part and tell the dealer you can find it cheaper online and they should lower the price for you. Mine did! I would replace both just do make sure cause it takes time to get to these places and doing it multi times like indid was a hassle. You will have to take off the intake manifold to get to them. You can have your dealers part department show you the diagram and it will give you a good idea in where they are. The temperature sensor is in the valley under the intake manifold towards the from left side, it's a bitch to get to. And the thermostat is in the front and center under the intake manifold. Best of luck to anyone out there!
Thank you for providing an update and a link to check the prices. We've purchased parts and have taken them to the dealership to replace previously, so will probably do the same here. It took me longer than it should have to just replace the driver side headlight.... Also, we have put so much money in this car since we have purchased it. Have you experienced any other issues with your car? My driverside door doesn't lock and we had to replace the ac compressor last year. Not to mention the struggle to find brakes that fit the car! I also have to have the transmission flushed every year because it started to shake after a certain speed. And not the replace the tires sort of shake. I'm in love with the newest model, but afraid to purchase another camaro!
I have a 2016 2SS having the same issue. We have replaced the sensor didn't stop the issue. Today, I had the thermostat changed and sure enough, I got back in the car to drive home and guess what? Yep, it did it again. I had to stop on the way home and disconnect the negative battery cable to reset it. Any other suggestions?
Did you clear the code from the system? If not until the code is cleared it might happen again. That's the only other thing I can think of because those are the only 2 issues that can cause this problem.
Okay so my 17 Camaro 3.6 is doing this same thing but not showing any maintenance light or check engine light? Engine coolant temp not reading fans run full blast have reset the battery about two months later it starts happening again, it seems to be thermostat and sensor do you have to have any special tools or remove bumper to get to the sensor? And did yours have a check engine light? Thanks
I did have my check engine light come on but it would go off after a certain amount of time and then go back on. The temperature sensor was a little annoying. I needed a flex head flare wrench in order to get to it easily because of its location under the I take manifold. 15mm. Also the thermostat in right in the front of the block also under the intake. The hose from the radiator will lead you right to it. It takes a 10mm pretty difficult to get out of the location but not impossible. Just takes some patience and maneuvering. Once you see how you got it out it will go in pretty easily. Just be patient and dont force anything.
GuruRKC9G thank you for your answers. I bought the thermostat and going to change it. I hope this works because I am tired of having the fan run, check engine light on, gauge not working, car not running different and my air not working. We all need to hound Chevy for a recall on this.
Ok as an update, we changed the thermostat this past Monday. On the way home from work, the gauge dropped to 0 and the fans came on again. I had not reset the ECM at that point. When I got home, I unhooked the negative cable and left it all night. Since then I have not had any further problems but I'm not getting all it's fixed yet because it has gone weeks without the issue occurring, so I will update again in a few weeks.
Guys did anyone find a solution yet i have the exact same issue on my camaro
Yes. Read through the thread. It's either your temperature sensor or thermostat. Look for answers from my user name
CaliDan here. Hi everyone, I’ve had the same issue for about 1yr now, Temp gage goes 0, fan kicks on and stays on. Disconnect the battery cable and issue goes away. I’ve had both the thermostat and sensor replaced, issue keeps coming back. WOULD LOVE TO KNOE THE REAL CAUSE OF THIS! Took my 2016 Camaro to a mechanic friend. He said my problem was the ECM. He said the ECM has an issue with the signal it is sending to the sensor. Has anyone found a permanent fix?
CaliDan. 'A problem with the EMC" would mean a bug in the code. A programming bug. That would require a software, or code, upgrade to the EMC. Or EMC replacement. Problem is the upgrade could be worse than the original. I'm going to just put up with the problem. For me the problem occurs once or twice a year.
I'm late to the parade but here's my situation, with a few more details that lead me to believe this is more a software issue than a thermostat one. This has been an issue w/ my 2016 Camaro 2SS for several months. The problem is intermittent, but happens more often than not. The thing is, I notice that my Rev Match paddles don't work when I have the temp gauge/fan problem. I never realized my AC didn't work during these times either, but I just confirmed it does not. After reading this thread, I took a drive around the block. I'm usually in Sports mode, but halfway into my drive (based on what someone said here, thanks!) I switched to Touring mode. The fan stopped and the temp gauge started to work, and my AC began blowing out cold air. The Rev Match paddles work now, too. I'll see if I can replicate these results over the next few weeks.
Its been over a month now since the thermostat was changed out. The same day it was changed I was on the way home and the car did the same thing. Temp gauge dropped and the fan came on. A friend told me to clear the codes by unhooking the negative cable and leave it unhooked overnight. So that is what I did. Its been over a month, and I am very happy to report I have had no further issues.

2016 Chevy camaro been having same issue. Fans stays on. No temperature reading. Ac stops blowing cold air. I unplug battery everything back to normal for like a day then same problem. Reading through everyone's problems and solutions I believe it is the thermostat. I will buy the part today and take it to mechanic since I've looked at several YouTube videos and it does seem a little too much for me. Will update next week around 6/10/2020. Thanks everyone
Same issue. Would love to know the process for recall on this.
Guru7RXK9,,,,,,,,,I don't believe there is a recall. My feeling is Chevy wont recall unless a safety issue or some other risk of law suit..... I have 120,000 on my V8 1SS and it runs fine with the problem. This problem of the temp gauge not working surfaces about once a year and so I am going to just live with it. Problem with taking your car to a Chevy dealer to have them fix something is that they often screw up something else while fixing your problem. I don't trust the dealership mechanics and I'm not going to do it my self..... If the problem of the gauge not working becomes more frequent or the begins to not run properly then I'll do something..... The less you take your car to a mechanic, the better off you'll be.
Celewis05........ Are 100% sure that the mechanic actually changes the thermostat? Or did he just tell you he changed it?
C...I'm curious as to why you would ask that question? I'm not an idiot by any means but since you asked I'm absolutely positive he changed the thermostat. I purchased the thermostat Phastek that he installed it not to mention the mechanic happens to be a friend. The thermostat was changed in April and since I reset the ECM; I haven't had any further issues.
First of all, disconnect the negative of the battery, wait 5 minutes and reconnect, works for me. Camaro SS 2010
I followed suit like Rod and changed my driving mode to tour and have not had this issue since. It has been well over 5 months. Obviously this isn't a fix to the main issue, but a solution to enjoy the AC in this 100° weather and not be embarrassed by the loud fan after shutting off the engine and walking away from my car. I'll revisit the issue once the cooler temps arrive, but also might not care to drive in sport mode ever again and just let it be.

I have 2016 Camaro SS with 50k miles, had the same problem with the car. So I disconnected the battery would solve the problem for couple days, but then gauges would just not work and fan would go full blast. I change the Thermostat which solved the problem, but does anyone know why the coolant level never drops ?
Whats up guys. I have a 2016 2SS Manual. Ive had this issue 2x this month. I am driving and suddenly my rev matching turns off, engine temp guage hits 0, engine fan turns on. The mechanic said the sensor breaks which tricks my car into thinking the engine is overheating. It is not. Its not a trans issue, its nothing more than that. No idea why this has happened 2x already but its pissing me off!
I have the same issue with the fan turning on. I already spend money on changing the ECM so that was not the issue so I believe is the coolent temperature sensor or the thermostat. Will anybody that has done the change on this part will give the part numbers I really want to make sure I get the right parts. Thanks
Hi Hope all is well!! This is an special thanks to GutuRZRMY! You were right on on the issue !, I have 2016 Cameroon 3.6 L V6 with 40.000 miles and check engine light with a P0128 code. Change the thermostat and housing witch already came with gasket to attach it to the engine “part number 12678784”and also you need part number 12649985 witch is the gasket in between the hose and thermostat ( you have to take the intake manifold check couple of good YouTube videos ! please always bring the VIN to the dealer to get the right part specially with newer cars if you want to use aftermarket parts is your call regardless you always have to do your home work is you want to DIY) reseted the code, did the whole process with the negative battery cable disconnect and replace part of the antifreeze 50/50 DEX-COOL (Silicate-free, red/pink color for GM) please always ware al the necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipments) Regards, Ed
This is the diagram for my previous post about the thermostat parts #6 and #4, housing with thermostat and gasket, Regards, Ed
I have the same issue with my 2016 RS Camaro. I disconnected the Negative cable for a couple hours. I closed the trunk. Good luck getting back into the trunk to reconnect it. The FOB won't work because the battery is disconnected. I had to go thru the back seat to reconnect it. It didn't work at first, but after the second start, the gage came back to life. If I have to replace the thermostat, how much would it cost to get it done at the dealer? It's only 4yrs old, will it be covered by the Manufacturer Warranty?
Chcharl0tt3 answered 4 years ago
This happened to my 2916 Camaro I took it to the dealership and it was a thermostat sensor staying open and sending the signal that my car was over heating when it wasn’t. The dealership gave me a donor car but they couldn’t get the part in from GM for 3 months! They finally got it and I got my car back after driving a traverse for 3 months.
Guru9DJKG7 answered 4 years ago
I have a 2013 Camaro RS and I was having the problem of my temp gauge going all the way down to cold when I turned on my heater. I would get the message of “A/C off due to high engine temp” but when I touched the hood, it was cold. I ended up changing the thermostat and the temperature sensor, it fixed the problem! The thermo was like $150 and the sensor was like $50.
GeraldBloniarz1925 answered 3 years ago
Today I had my GM dealer replace the thermostat in my 2016 Camaro 2SS having 42000 miles. Replacement had been prompted by the third time in 12 months that the temperature gauge failed to record and the fans were engaged fully. A defective thermostat as we know, if closed, can destroy an engine, and, if stuck open prevents the engine from operating properly causing failures across the board. In either case is why the monitoring system warns you with the above conditions. Now here is the gratifying part of the scenario: Should your vehicle remain within the 'DRIVE TRAIN" warranty there will be no cost to you for the replacement!
jamesanderson99 answered 3 years ago
If you turn off your car after you get it to temp then start it back up your temp gauge won’t drop and turn fans on high. Temp. Fix
GeraldBloniarz1925 answered 3 years ago
See my comments 4 days ago. To date my dealers has had my car 7 days and remains in a quandary as to the solution. Thermostat changed and evaluations given in all other related areas. The problem has been turned over to GM Engineering Department. Will update as finding present themselves.
GeraldBloniarz1925 answered 3 years ago
Ref two earlier comments: A thermostat replacement appears to have resolved the above issue! Had my car back from the dealer seven days and the temperature gauge now reads 11:00 rather then 10, or 10:30. (time rather then temp numbers). GM states that actual coolant temp will not necessarily correspond to the temp read on the temperature gauge. So at this point I'm relatively comfortable with problem solved with just the thermometer replacement.

If you notice if you hit the start button 1st then press the brakes that's when it happens. If I put my foot on the brakes then hit the start button I don't have this issue. When you do it the wrong way yes you have to disconnect the negative cable to reset everything. Why it does that I still don't know but I notice when I'm not paying attention & do it the wrong way my temp hand doesn't move & my fan stays on!
GeraldBloniarz1925 answered 3 years ago
With regard to this particular issue, which has been experienced by me on three occasions, has been remedied; Replace that stuck-open thermostat! Should the "drivetrain warranty yet be in effect your dealer will replace free of charge to you!
Change your thermostat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD..............................................................

I know this is a camaro thread but I'm having the same issue with a 2016 Z51 stingray, happens off and on, today especially. Reset the ECM with the batt, all good. I'm still thinking it's a software issue unless it's the same thermostat across three different engine setups....
BTW, I had previously replaced the sensor, no joy. Happened again a couple days later. Been off and on for over a year now. Today was the first time in about 4 months. I came across this thread trying to do some research and found it to be happening to multiple models, that's why I'm thinking software, or maybe just a very LARGE bad batch of thermostats. Going to research some more to see if it's the same part number for all of these models.
So upon further checking, thermostats are different....HOWEVER the ECM's are the same amongst the Vette and the V8 Camaro. The V6 Camaro has a different one. But I'm sure that all of the whiz kidz at Chevy know this already and have put 2 and 2 together...Maybe. So I guess I'll just keep disconnecting my battery for now until there is something else out there on the street about this.
I have a 2013 3.6 V6. Last night in 75 degree weather after my car was parked all day. I start my car to go home and about 15 min the temp gauge doesn’t move and the digital reading is blank. No temp at all!!! Car says turn off A/C to avoid over heating. Fans are all on full blast. I stopped and checked coolant and it’s full. A/C once turned on is HOT. No leaks or puddles under the car. I’m thinking thermostat is stuck. No codes will pop up cause check engine never came on.
Guru9S5S4X answered 3 years ago
Okay here is a really good one. My 2010 Camaro V6 emergency signals would go suddenly on by themselves (when parked). It did this twice. Then later, the horn went on and off when parked for hours. Now the temp gauge is suddenly going up (hot) randomly while driving, then goes down when I turn the AC off. This car has always run like a dream. What's happening?

I have a 2016 LT 3.6 been dealing with this for a year. Changed driving mode from sport to touring. NO issues all gauges working, temp reading accurately. So going on the road tomorrow for about a hundred miles, Ill see what happens. I'm thinking ECM problem. I can see my thermostat is reading correctly. GM knows about the issue. No Recall. Real problem with the damn ECM too expensive and parts from too many different vendors. I live in Texas not too many cold days. Sure its a ECM issue. Dealer mechanic can fix the problem but he wont tell you. 30 years a mechanic and this is not the first time GM cant respond due to their issues with manufacturing and shortages of corrected parts availability. Tried ECM from 2017 and 2018, same problem!!! I cant believe they installed bad Thermostats and Coolant sensors in this many vehicles. It is a ECM issue and quality control issue. Cant wait to see what happens tomorrow. Let you know.
Sorry for just now posting an update, but I replaced the thermostat and it’s been working perfect for three years now.
I've been a mechanic(ASE Master Tech and ASE Worldwide status) and a Diagnostician for over 20 years. Too many people on here are panicking and being contrary. First, the car should set a P0128 code. When it does, the AC compressor won't kick on(safety feature), the temp gauge stops working(PCM sees what it thinks is continuous bad data and ignores the ECT output), and the cooling fan runs continuously on high(safety feature). 99 times out of 100, on the LGX(3.6 V6) this is a bad thermostat. Same for the LS3 and L99. New thermostats being bad out the box is common so be wary.
And all related codes MUST BE CLEARED VIA A SCAN TOOL OR BATTERY DISCONNECT after replacing the thermostat before the PCM will resume normal operation. Working on a 2016 Camaro with the 3.6 as we speak.
ONE SOLUTION HERE. KEEP FUEL TANK HALF OR ABOVE FILLED. 2019 LT Camaro 3.6L V6. Same as ya'll, Engine Temp dashboard gauge moves at startup, then reads 0. The computer Engine Temp screen reads --. AC doesn't work. Remote Start won't work while issue persists. Issue ONLY starts after fuel tank dips below 1/4-7/8 fuel left in tank. What I've learned is keep tank half or fuller and have tools to unplug battery just in case for quick reset.

To all the tools saying it's mechanical... I would mention you're tools but i'd repeat myself. It's 100% code bug. Fourth thermostat + sensor in 2 months and it's still happening. STOP telling people to WASTE MONEY on something NOT going to fix the problem. Sell your Camaro and never buy another one again, solves 100% of your problems. If you cannot do that, just get used to unplugging the battery all the time.

2/2 I have a POS 2018 Camaro 3.6 Manual with 57k miles, bought the car at 55k miles and it's been a POS since day one. Wish Indiana had Lemon laws from dealerships KNOWINGLY selling you ****ed up cars.
Ok boys & girls. My input to this would be this. I just recently purchased a Beautiful 2016 2SS. MANUAL !!!! @ 40K mi. lost my Temp Gauge. Read Numerous Threads on different sites and this thread placed the period at the end of the sentence. I can not tell you which one independently fixed the problem because of the order I replaced them. The problem has been solved since 21SEP22. Today is 22SEP22. *** First, replaced the ORIGINAL THERMOSTAT with a NEW MISHIMOTO 180*. NOTHING. Then replaced the ORIGINAL COOLANT SENSOR with a NEW AC DELCO SENSOR. NOTHING. Then unplugged the POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE for 30 MIN. NOTHING. Was going to try the NEGATIVE CABLE when I came across GLORIA'S ANSWER (TY !!!) Funny thing is, DURING all of these swaps I had to JUMP MY BATTERY TWICE. REPLACED the ORIGINAL BATTERY with a NEW INTERSTATE MTX-48/H6 BATTERY. AGAIN !!!! IT'S ONLY BEEN WORKING FOR LEES THAN 24HRS. BUT !!!!! IT IS WORKING !!! TY to ALLLLLL of you that have answered this question !!! IF not for ALLLL of you I would not have so EASILY AND INEXPENSIVE way to fix my car. YES, I did ALL of the WORK. Common Knowledge & YOUTUBE !!!!!
Additionally... My Thermo looked fine but the sensor had minor corrosion on the outside. No leak though. A thought, my batty was on it's LAST LEG when I lost my Temp Gauge. Coincidence. Possible.
Dash after all work completed. YAAAAAAY. LOL. 3 Days later, she's running like nothing ever happened!!! X my fingers!!!
Can you drive the car like this with its temp gauge out and the fan blowing? I have to go to a conference tomorrow and am hesitant to drive for 2 hours. It won't harm anything, will it?
Hi, I got the same issue and thought it is good to also write the results. Story: like everybody else. the gauge dropped and the fan started at full speed. I connected the car to the ECU reader and saw the temp is normal and found two error codes both regarding low temperature. reset the battery. it worked for a day. reset the battery again and waited a couple of hours. worked great for two weeks and the problem came back. reset the battery and brought the car to the dealership, they couldn't find the problem. waited two weeks. the problem back again. this time I brought the car to the dealership with the fan at full speed. They put the car on test and told me they need to change the thermostat ( like someone here also mentioned it). it works fine so far ( two weeks passed) . in addition (like someone suggested) I also told them to change the sensor as the cost pf labor was already taken care of by removing the intake and reaching the thermostat and the sensor is just 15 bucks.
forgot to mention. Camaro 2016
Turn car on - turn car off- turn car on. 100% success rate the last 18 months with this technique. No more bat terminal removal !!!!

Rowdyree62 #SODAYUMFRUSTERATAED I have a 2019 Camaro LT1 and for over a year this has been happeningon and off again. Disconnect and reset battery terminal. It will work for a few days and then start doing the same thing again. The temp never gets above 170. The other day it finally threw a code after a year and all it said was temperature malfunction. Well duahhh!! Ok so my husband was thinking airflow sensor changed helped we thought for a month or so then started back again. After reading all the threads we are going to try and change the thermostat and will update. So yeah this is strange that it goes any where from a 2010 to 2019 year model unbelievable!!!
Hello everyone , i have a 2028 2lt Cmaro , my AC stopped working , and fan wont shut off i was told it needs new thermostat and new sensor now that i got al this fixed up, fan turns off as soon as i turn the car off , the mechanic did not balance the buttom coolant reservior evengly and i am afraid it will start over heating .. my temp gauge reads 190 when i drive it , according to google search this is what Camaro normal temp.. i am taking it back to the mechanic tomorrow , pretty stressful and its good to know i am not the only one here :( i will be back for an update . keeping my figers and toes crossed
Solved (kinda) … 100% success rate for over 2 years ……. Turn car on. Turn car off. Turn car on. Drive worry free about temp gage going to zero or ac not working or fan running continuously or disconnecting and reconnecting battery.
