I purchased a car from a dealer the other day. I was dismayed that the price
the dealer asked was not the same as what CarGurus advertised it for. Is this
typical? If this is the practice, it is a little misleading.

Dealers and sellers set their own prices. CarGurus is not at all involved in the pricing process. If you saw a price online and the dealer was higher in person, I'd find another dealer.
