Average Speed?

Question type: General

I have a Nissan sentra 2016 and would like to know how it
calculates average speed. Does it factor in time sitting
while the car is running or only when it's moving?

I could be wrong on this I'll double check with a Nissian engineer next week. It should be based on wheel rotation (motion only) not time / hours of engine run time.

If time where a factor, it would read the number of hrs. the car is turned on. Moving at 0 mph X any number = 0. Doubt 0 mph could be a average speed, unless it is a show car.

We are in a brand new 2019 Nissan Sentra with 592 miles on it. We’ve been driving for 5.5 hours @ 60- 80 and 45 minute stop. Average Speed reads 30 mph????
