How far above? If its like a full quart over you could take it back and tell them to drain it back to full line or drain some yourself. Did you wipe off the oil when you first pulled it out and then put it back in for a second pull to check it?

who changed the oil? was it a good mechanic in a good garage, or was it one of those quickie oil change places? If it was a QuickieLube, it could be anything- you have untrained people messin' around under your hood and anything can go wrong and usually does- if I must guess, about bad gas mileage, I would guess something was mistakenly disconnected under the hood- look again for a disconnected wire or somethin' and take it to a good mechanic to figure this out, do NOT take it back to the guys who did this- that's just askin' for more trouble-

Always have the dealership service and maintain your vehicle and avoid the "quick lube" places or do it yourself. Also always check the dipstick and look around under the hood prior to leaving the service establishment. Errors can be made.
