Engine temperature gage is way over 260 degres

Asked by LarryDB51 Feb 22, 2017 at 06:19 AM about the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Base Double Cab

Question type: General

vehicle at 38,00 miles tem gage is over 260.  water in reservoir is warm but
not hot can touch with finger,  after 30 minute cool down hood up - temp gage
still over 260 degrees

Well you would have steam all over the place if it where actually overheating that bad. I'd say there is a problem with the temp. gauge or a temperature sending unit. I would think this is under warranty, take to the dealer.

Thanks after restarting twice gage went to normal. I ll get it to dealer. Gages all peg then drop to zero and go to perimeters. I think it stuck on that swing and I did not catch it.
