How does CarGurus assess value to installed options?

Asked by Zyler Nov 05, 2019 at 12:52 AM about the 2016 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab V6 TRD Off Road 4WD

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I am selling a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR with over $12000 of dealer installed
options like a lift kit and shell, but I don't see where they ask or even place
value on these.  When I list my truck it will always be ranked as OVERPRICED
because they don't take this into account.

Those options probably do not add value and a lot of accessories reduce value. Most people want to do their own customization.

IMV or Instant Market value only checks year, make and model, price, mileage and location. No one manually reads through every ad. Post what you have done to the truck in the descibption and hope that someone smart enough will look past the IMV and read through your ad and contact you. But FOR is right, if you spent $12K for options, don't expect to recoup near that amount.

I never expected to get dollar for dollar what I put into it. I would even be happy with 30 cents on the dollar, I certainly don't expect to just give it away either. I just don't like the fact they don't take anything into consideration. I could see not being able to some customizations, but a topper is pretty basic. Plus, it's not like I put some custom graphics or spinners on that I want to be compensated for, but I put on a topper, 3 inch lift kit and leather seats.
