Question type: Maintenance & Repair

just purchased my son a 2000 Honda Civic SI coupe, with Auto trannsmission. Test drove it, seemed a little sluggish, but it only has a 1600 cc motor, and I'm used to a 5.7 litre hemi............. some vibration in the front right as well. Seemed to shift well into 2nd and third while driving, didn't notice "any" down shift whenn manually shifting to 3rd, but lots whenm dropping to first gear. Fluids where nice and RED, no heat visible on the dip...........how best to check this tranny out, or could the vibe be from the transaxle up front?

well when you shift into first in an automatic i would hope it dropped a lot. its not meant to slow the car down. its meant to keep the revs low when you dont have good traction to keep you from spinning the tires. i hope you werent going fast when you put the car into "1st" as far as the vibration that could be anything. tire not balanced, bent rim, bad tension pulley, worn out suspension parts. best advice, take it to a mechanic.

everything came auto unless you go to high high end sports cars or really really old cars

Asker must be Canadian. USDM 2000 Civic Si only came in MT, but the Canadian Si (which is the equivalent of EX model in U.S.) would have come in AT. Meaning, he is probably asking about the D16, rather than B16. Not to mention, most high-end sports cars these days are paddle-shift, not MT.

ryan is correct the us SI version has never came in an automatic unless of course he has an overseas trans from a b16 del sol SI so if thats the case then replace that d16 transmission they can be founf cheap and labor not to bad to take one out
