Why is my car overheating?

Asked by FlyG1rl41 Mar 01, 2019 at 08:31 AM about the 2002 Honda Civic Coupe EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 02' Honda Civic Ex Coupe and it is overheating after about 10
minutes of driving it, and will not start up until engine has cooled down.
There is coolant in the radiator but not in the reservoir which is odd. The next
day when the car was completely cool i removed the cap from radiator and
fluid poured out as if the car was still overheated. Not sure if it is a bad
radiator, water pump, leaking head gasket, thermostat, or bad hoses. Please
help me figure this out.

That sounds fantastically like a blown head gasket. :( Pressure in the cylinder bleeds to the coolant system and if it has nowhere else to go, it will vent through the cap when it is opened. I would be looking for pasty brown goo on the dipstick and not driving it till fixed.

You could see one, eventually. I would have a compression test done asap.
