Probably telling you that it needs an oil change. Take it somewhere and have it scanned to see if there are any codes. This would tell you an idea on what to do.

In most vehicles, the light means "Maintenance Required". It is triggered by the car's computer system and tells the driver that the computer has detected a problem someplace in one of the car's mechanical systems that involves an electrical switch, sensor or monitor, that has sent a signal to the computer that the electrical object has sent an incorrect electrical value to the computer & that value tells the computer that something is wrong with that system and is creating a problem or that it may create a problem. You can buy an inexpensive Diagnostic Trouble Code Reader or have the car checked for trouble codes at most auto parts stores, free of charge. Having said that, the only cars I have come across personally that have an exception to this, are Hondas. They have a preset programmed value built into them that triggers the light at intervals which are determined by mileage and sent to trigger the light to remind the driver that the car is due to have the oil & filter changed. After changing the oil you reset the light by following the procedure written in the owner's manual. If you reset the light assuming that the oil needs to be changed and it comes back on in a very short time or right after you reset it, you have a definite problem in the car's management system and it needs to be repaired.
