In private sale who should pay for .........

Asked by Paul Dec 04, 2020 at 12:23 PM about the 2002 Honda Accord LX V6

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

Need backup for a family member.  In trying to evaluate a car's value who
should pay for the CarFax, State Inspection, new battery, new wiper blades and
even minimal insurance to enable the state inspection to be completed. I'm
trying avoid a family feud.

This is a matter of negotiation. A CF is not a legal requirement. The repairs could be paid for by the seller but the seller might add the repair costs into the price. If the state requires the inspection before title can be transfer then the seller would pay.

Is this a salvage title vehicle that needs to be inspected before it can be registered? At any rate, everything you mentioned is the buyer's responsibility to pay for. Especially on an 18 year old vehicle. You'll be buying the vehicle as is. Hope that helps! Jim
