What’s wrong with my Transmission?

Asked by K_money6 Mar 03, 2020 at 03:39 PM about the 2001 Honda Accord EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello everyone I’m a 22 year old student in
an inevitable bad situation.
A little info about the car is that it’s a 2001
Honda Accord 4-cylinder with 266,000 km
and have recently ran into some problems
which I believe are transmission related. The
problem is that anytime I come to a dead
stop and the car is still in gear D4, the gear
disengages as if it were in neutral and upon
applying a little bit of gas the gear will
reengage and have smooth transition from
gears 1 through 5 without any jerks. The
same is true for the reverse gear, where the
car behaves as if it is in neutral and upon
applying a little bit of gas the reverse gear
engages and the car reverses normally.

I know the 2001 Honda transmissions all
have issues so I have always had regular oil
changes and transmission fluid is good as
well. So I was wondering is this something
that I just pray it lasts and see how long it
goes or is their a diagnosis that you
experienced motorists know of?

I have no warning lights on my dash at all and everything else is working in peak performance, which is why this issue caught me so off guard. I'm planning to go to a mechanic shop in a day or two and hopefully I can get some answer. I was just hoping to see if someone else has encountered the same problem in the past and how costly the issue was?
