Quick fix or transmission problem?
Asked by Hondacivic2001 Apr 05, 2016 at 11:29 AM about the 2001 Honda Civic DX
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I notice that my car idles really low at like
.5 or .3, that's only part of the issue..this
only happens when I don't come to a
complete stop, sometimes when going into
a turn without coming to a stop and I go to
accelerate again it's like it shifts and then
shifts again very quickly. Also in stop and
go traffic when I push on the gas a bit it
kinda jolts forwards and then when I let off
the gas it jolts back. I'm not sure what it's
doing, and sometimes when getting up to
speed the rpms drop but not during a shift.
Sorry if this is confusing but if anyone can
help that would be wonderful..has 92,000
miles btw

The guy I bought it from said he hadn't had it done because he never had any problems, I just bout it about 3 weeks ago. I had transmission problems in a previous car so maybe he just didn't notice it. So would that be taken care of in a transmission flush or a different service?

Do you know if there are any other possible issues or is that the main possibility that you think it would be?

He kept records of everything he had done, he did tune ups, oil changes, I didn't see paperwork for timing belt. But I think I need to change the spark plugs and wires and definitely transmission service just wasn't sure if it was something that was gonna be cheap or more expensive and actually wanted to know what the problem was before I went in there
Did you switch tire/rim sizes to something bigger? That has been known to throw off transmission.
Although, it wouldn't effect the idle speed. Disregard my last comment. Sorry. I just had my tranny rebuilt because it started to slip real bad. Now it performs like new (like it should). $1200 later.
