Transmission overheated 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71

My transmission temperature got to 260
degrees while trying to make it home, at a red
light it wouldn’t shift into gear at all. The engine
revs up, but not very high on the rpm’s at all.
Sounds like it’s lagging. I can still shift it from
park to neutral and vice verses. Am I screwed
with having to buy a new transmission or is
there hope? Thanks in advance.
