I own a 2000 Accord.  Purchased it new, and have faithfully had the Honda dealer service it whenever I was notified
that it was time. I have 62,000 miles. Yesterday, when I brought my car ito the Honda dealer for
service, I was told that the fluids were DIRTY and that I must replace the tranmission.  My question....
Should the fluids be dirty if maintainance if faithfully consistant?  Is it reasonable to asume that Honda transmissions
will fail after nine years of careful driving and faithful maintainance?

are you slipping from first to second? I had the same issue, what I did was just get the fluids flushed. if you replace the tranny in 3 months it'll be slipping worse then it is now, I guarantee it. It's a common thing with that model accord, unfortunately. It usually happens around 100,000 km, so about 60,000 miles i guess, the dealership is trying to rip you off. If they say they can't flush and replace the fluid go somewhere else for an opinion.

Yes, it is reasonable to assume that Honda transmissions will fail after 9 years... I have the same generation Accord, a 2002, the last one made for that generation... at 64,000 miles, I'm already experiencing the transmission slips... I believe they had even extended the transmission warranty to 7 years for this model because of its known faultiness. I will never purchase an automatic Accord again!
