Honda Civic Coolant Leak

Asked by Guru26RRN Mar 04, 2020 at 11:31 PM about the 2000 Honda Civic EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got the water pump for my honda civic fixed
as it was causing it to overheat. It was perfect for a
couple weeks until today the car didn’t start. The
engine cranked but wouldnt start. Then it started
working perfect after waiting for a few hours.
However, now it is overheating, and when I pour
coolant in the reservoir it all leaks out directly under
very fast. What is the problem?

If it leaks right back out as you install it, then you obviously have a major leak in the cooling system; check all the hoses are in place, the overflow bottle (aka degas bottle) isn't cracked, the hoses to the overflow are good, the thermostat is good, the bypass house is in place and good, and the engine freeze plugs are intact. Don't drive with low or no coolant, overheating is a great way to destroy a motor. The "no start" and overheating may or may not be related, so don't treat them as symptoms of the same problem.
