I've seen cooling fans for turbo that may cycle on/off even with the engine turned off. Those turbos get really hot and can cook the oil/bearing/seal while parked. Check with the VW mechanic and see. I had a 1986 VW Rabbit (non-turbo) that had a radiator cooling fan that would come on a minute after it was parked. One time, parking the car and walking toward the restaurant, my girlfriend heard the fan come on, she said "Is the car leaving without us?".
