Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '98 Accord EX blows a fuse when I hit the horn button (it does however let out a short
beep before blowing the fuse)

Sounds like the wire that feeds power to the horn is grounding out on the body.

It sure does sound like a short but it could be anywhere in the circuit including the horn switch and the horn itself. I don't see any obvious problems with exposed wires. Any more specific suggestions?

Unplug the wire at the horn and check with a test light to see if it is grounding out, also check the function of the horn using a seperate power source.

Definitely a short in the wire someplace. This has only happened to me once in all the years and cars I owned and mine was up in the steering wheel. It could be anywhere from the horn itself all the way up thru the steering column into the wheel.

Figured it out for anyone else interested. It was the horn pad that was worn out and shorting the fuse.

The metal ring inside the column under the wheel or the metal contacts under the padded center of the wheel? I'm sorry if it was the padded area I should have been more exact when I said up through the column into the wheel itself. Thanks for posting what you found.
