1998 honda passport not holding water

My honda passport ain't holding and water n it
keeps overheating. I try add water every time but,
the gauge keep raising up minutes afterwards.

There are some reasons for this, may be that the thermostat needs replacing, may be air in the cooling system, or there may be a bad head, or head gasket, or a bad water pump.
