Check kbb.com for a current value. A total loss is when it will cost more to fix the vehicle than it's worth on the retail market. Extras like an expensive stereo, new tires, or recent repairs don't factor into the value of the vehicle. Mileage and overall condition of the vehicle before the damage is what counts the most.
