One or two ball joints needed if worn?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had suspension arms
done. Paid and left
mechanic. Immediately,
car started squeaking
from left front driver tire,
or that's what it sounded
like.
I brought Hyundai 2008
back to see if tire was too
tight, needed realignment,
etc. They told me I
needed a single RIGHT  
ball bearing! I asked why
they did not see this
before? 1. This is not
something that suddenly
occurs and 2. Why one
side and not the other?
Am I being scammed?

You are not being scammed. the garage probably found the loose ball joint when doing the alignment. Usually shops will replace in suspension components in pairs, as you will replace one, only to have the other fail. Should they have looked at all the components of your suspension when replacing the control arms? I might have, but not all mechanics are thorough.

Hi, they didn't find it the first time when they did the arms and alignment. That was what my question to them was. How did they not see that? This is why I am concerned I am not going to the right place. Perhaps I don't need this done at all and it is. just the alignment that is the problem.
