Towing
Asked by Nexia_740 Feb 19, 2017 at 06:48 PM about the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L GL AWD
Question type: General
I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, V6.
I'd like to tow a lightweight travel
trailer. As I recall, it can "tow a
boat". Joke! Anyway, it seems
everyone I've spoken with,
INCLUDING dealer I bought it from
has a different answer; 1000-6000
pounds is not an answer!!! Can
someone please give me a
definitive answer?

I have been towing a single axel landscape type trailer on my 2011 with no problems. Trailer is wood/steel/steel mesh combo 71/2 x 12'. Weighs about 1500lbs and have used it loaded w 1500 to 2500 lbs on it many times w no problems. Just remember to drive it like you are carrying a full load w no jack rabbit starts or sudden stops and you should be fine, especially if the trailer does not have it's own brakes.
Despite the power boost, maximum towing capacity for the 3.5 GLS is only 45 kg (100 pounds) more than the all-wheel-drive 2.7 Santa Fe. In fact, if towing capacity is a factor, note that the front-drive 2.7 Santa Fe offers the most capacity — 1,452 kg (3,200 lb.), compared to 1,270 kg (2,800 lb.) for the 3.5 GLS.
