First check the condition of your plugs and wires, then run some intake cleaner through the air intake hose while running it. If those don't clear it up, check the EGR valve and valve passages in the manifold under the EGR valve. If the passages are clogged with carbon build up it can make the car run poorly as you have described, and not necessarily set off the engine trouble light with a code.
