Car doesn't start immediately after getting gas?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. My 2009 Kia Rio won't start right after I get gas.  On the second or third try it starts but I have to floor it to get it to stay on. Then it's fine for the most part until I get gas again? Occasionally I get fumes while driving or the first start in the morning. Also the last time I filled my tank gas came back out like a waterfall after the gas pump had shut itself off but before I took it out??? Would this be the purge control??

I think you have a problem with the EVAP system and the tank is not venting properly.

Purge valve replacement and gas cap is what was wrong with my 09 kia rio sx. Id get gas or try to fill up and just wouldn't start. Took about 15 to 20 minutes of trying to turn over. My check gas cap light would come on and it made more sense after diagnosis.

Have an 09 Rio with the 1.6.Just started this issue of starting hard and running terrible for about a mile after refueling....126000 miles.Changed the gas cap and purge valve under the hood...problem still exists!! Sometimes it throws an e-vap code and/or random misfire code after it gets over its"little spell"!!I understand there is another purge valve near the gas tank.Probably will change that next as I am running out of options.Any other ideas??

I have 2010 Rio. Have changed gas cap and both purge valves. When I fill up, I have to crank and hold gas down and put into gear...once it's going it's fine. Also, light went off after second (back) purge valve changed but code readers are saying system hasn't been able to reset. Any answers?
