Ford expedition starter issues

Went through three starter this week replaced
ground wire vehicle will start the immediately the
starter starts smoking

Is the engine trying to seize? You may need to check starter motor amp draw? Pull spark plugs and belt, see if starter motor still smokes? Engine ground--chassis ground--battery connections all good? Battery cables don't get hot? Can you do voltage drop test on starter voltage and ground circuits? You might run ground wire from starter motor housing over to frame, see if it helps? I'm just thinking out loud. good luck

The ground for a starter is where it bolts to the motor block , I don't know what wires you reconnected but something ain't right .
