Need to bring #1 piston up on the compression stroke. You can pull #1 spark plug out and feel for the compression stroke, It will go by fast if you use the starter, then watch your timing mark and rotate the crank so the mark is on TDC.
where is the mark on the block to line up with mark on crank
It would be your timing mark on the harmonic pulley and the timing tab on the timing cover.
was just told it does not have a timing cover bolt on a pulley came loose and so we are starting from scratch with belt off and no darn manual
Easy way to get this is to look and see where the #1 post is on the distributor cap, and watch the rotor coming around toward #1 post/ plug wire, then you know you are on the compression stroke. That is unless you have had the distributor out. When the rotor is close to the #1 your piston is getting close to TDC.
oh no...well leave the distributor alone, you will be able to use it as a reference. Now the timing marks need to be aligned between the camshaft timing gear and crankshaft gear. I am going to have to look that up...may take a bit...
When these marks get aligned properly #1 will automatically come to TDC
I'll tell you what, this will be much easier if you go to you-tube and find a video on how to do this rather than me explaining, then you will see and understand more. Thats all I was to do since I have not done one of these, I have done many, but not one of these ones.
