A/C runs hot or engine runs hot?
Have to ask, is coolant full? Radiator and reservoir. Up to max line in reservoir?
Possibly low coolant, weak water pump, failing A/C compressor or your fan or fans not working with A/C on.
Coolant expands hot so engine cold for 5 hours, this level in reservoir should be at max line usually 3/4 full of total reservoir bottle. You can look at this with engine running but do not open radiator cap or reservoir hot you will get burned. Look at side of reservoir to see level. These are white/clear reservoirs.
AC adds heat load to your engine. Your cooling system may need servicing or even a HD radiator replacement.

Ok, both fans are on when the air conditioner is on. I will check the antifreeze/coolant level as soon as I get home. Is there a way that I could possibly check the water pump myself?
There really is not an easy way to test the water pump. The bearing gets loose and it leaks letting you know it is bad. Pump can make noise before this also letting you know it is time for a change. Pumps are miles maintenanced. Usually they are replaced when doing timing belts and pulleys at 70K ish according to each manufacturer. Pumps can leak through a weep hole also letting you know it is bad. If this vehicle is new to you and you don’t know how many miles are on it, I would recommend changing it soon.
