2009 Audi A4 4dr quattro engine ruined now what?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Timing chain broke and now the mechanic is quoting over $4k to fix damage
to engine. My daughter only paid $3500 for the car, 175,000 miles in perfect
condition besides recent engine issue. Does anyone have any suggestions on
best way to proceed?

Personally, I would research and make sure that the engine in that vehicle is a non- interference engine, and if it is a non-interference engine, I would proceed with replacing the timing chain myself. If it turns out to be an interference engine, then there is an incredibly high chance that the pistons inside of the engine have come in contact with the intake and exhaust valves, if this has happened, the engine would either need to be rebuilt or replaced, but not to worry, most engines in vehicles are non-interference. I would research that first before I went any farther to see if its even worth it.
Well, with that in mind, it's up to you to decide the fate of the vehicle.
