towing 16' travel trailer behind 2000 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer

My new trailer has a TDW of 2140, HW of 245 and GVWR of 3500.  My 2000
Eddie Bauer Explorer states in manual that it can pull GVWR of 3500.  What is
needed hitch wise for safety and best handling to be able to pull the trailer.
thanks.  I'm getting such conflicting information from "professionals", including
the Ford dealership
