2012 Audi A3 dying shortly after starting
My 2012 audi a3 car periodically dies a few seconds after starting the
vehicle (I usually get out of the parking spot). It has never died starting from
home - only after I have driven someone and parked the car. It only dies
when I start the car - not after it has been running.
I have taken it to the dealer twice. They first replaced the battery and then
replace the high pressure fuel pump. Neither of these solutions have
worked.
So far it has died in this fashion 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Temperatures
where I live have fluctuated significantly in the past 2 months and I have
also added fuel line anti-freeze. This has not seemed to work either.
Yesterday the car died again. I tried starting for 5 minutes with hard cranks
and no success. Then, popped the hood, jiggled the MAF and it started
right up. This could be a complete coincidence but thought it was worth
noting. I added more fuel line anti-freeze yesterday. My tank was about
1/4 full it was the hottest day of the year yesterday 10 degrees celcius (50f)
and the previous week was somewhat cold
Also to note is that in the morning there is a hard crank of 2-3 seconds.
The temperature here is <= -5 degrees celcius which is equivalent to below
23 degrees F.
I'm really stumped here. Any help is greatly appreciated. The dealer
refunded me for the service and replacement of battery however I am still
out $850 on the high pressure fuel pump and service for that job. I want to
try and figure this out without having to go back to the dealer as I have no
confidence in their ability after several past experiences.
I have attached a picture for the sequence of events I plan on giving this
picture to the dealership should I have to bring it back to them.
Thanks a lot.
