Horsepower isn't cheap, and getting horsepower out of a small motor is expensive. Exhaust and a cold air intake may add 5-10 hp. You'll get a lot louder and still be slow. There are two ways to get power from an engine, allow more air to flow in, or force it in. With allowing air to flow in, the displacement of an engine limits that which is why small engines make much less power until forced induction is used. In short, to make a car go faster you need money. There's no way around it. The only thing you can do really without spending money is start removing seats, insulation, and any other weight that you don't need.

There's little point in rigging your fan assembly in such a way. The thermostat regulates the coolant temperature more than the fans, and having both fans on won't significantly reduce the charge temperature. And don't take out the thermostat or go getting a ridiculously low temperature one either. Cars are designed to operate within a certain temperature range. You can likely get a slightly lower rated thermostat, which will do more to lower under hood temperatures than having both fans running. That being said there will be almost no difference in power in either case...

yoo change the clutch with sport one hks or greddy company sport spark plugs with spark wires sport one full exhaust system or just the muffler , air intake , msd for high electric power . i think that will be good good if u wanna race on rolling on 40 or 30 km/h the 1 , 2 ,3 gear will goin too fast but just make sure ur tires not spinning because u gonna lose power i think that for cheap horsepower but if u wanna expensive horsepower change the engine with 2.0 or 2.2 vitec with turbo u gonna beat the people with 6 or 8 cylinders cars . if u wanna more details let s stay om touch .

hp for cheap? only way i see this is Nitrous Oxide. Cheapest horsepower for dollars. use wisely. if you can afford a tune then tune for nos. if not, retard your timing. And why do you need two fans for your stock SOHC? That's absurd. two fan won't even do anything in your application since you only have a half radiator.

Everybody knows the term..come on.."ya gotta pay to play" and in cars....it is so so true. Only free speed enhancement?? Weight reduction...gut your car except for your seat if you're that set on being' "fast and furious"

Yeah, free is not an option... You could go with an ebay muffler, but it will sound like crap and not give you anything noticable. To be honest you'll have to spend money... The way I look at it with my cars is that "You get out of it what you put in it."

for tech advise and good conversation, try hondaswap.com the only way to make your car faster without spending any money is to make yourself a better driver. think of it this way, if you put Jenson Button( or the Stig!) in your car, and you in a GSR, you will still lose the race.

Well since Hondas are ECONOMY cars NOT race cars, you will definetly need to spend lots of money for horsepower, since cars like yours come stock with very low horsepower. Just the way it.

English, do you speak it? An ignition system will not give him more horsepower. A new clutch will not give him more horsepower. You don't lose power when you spin the wheels, you just lose traction.

Leave it stock. Don't modify a single part on it. If you start hacking things up, you will hate yourself in the long run for doing it. Trust me, just leave it stock and drive it.

the first and easiest way to get hp without spending money is to tear down the engine to its cylinders. take each piston out! put the #1 piston in the #4 place and put it in backwards. do the same to the #2 piston in the #3 place backwards and #4 piston in #1's place backwards... this will give u at least 40 ft lb of torque. but dont leave the pistons like that for a long time or you will wear out ur block! torque x rpm = hp/5252

stealing stuff is free, but i don't think that's what you mean. Seriously though, for every ten pounds you lose you get 1hp, so forget the passengers...

so true. lighten up ur ride. u dont need power steering or a/c or a bake seat.but power is no cheap thing. especailly out of a four banger, even so out of a d series. my advice save ur money and drop a sweap in the beast. but good luck wit it. join b20vtec.com

fast, reliable, cheap you only get to pick two! turbo the D on the stock internals, piece together a kit instead of buying onoe and it will be a little less expensive. Then you can run a good 8 psi with a good tune. Possibly good for 180+ hp! Just a thought!

The only way to make power in a D series motor is with (A) Nitrous or (B) forced induction. Seeing as you want a cheap build, spray is your only option. Go get a Zex wet 75 shot kit. Make sure it comes with a WOT kit for engagement. My friend had a hatchie swapped with a z6 nothing but header, exhaust, ram air, and 75 shot and he went mid 13's. Trust me, that's fast enough for you. Just don't spray all the time or you'll find out pretty damn fast how detrimental nitrous can be on an old motor =P.

If you want: 1. fast - wrong car 2. Hp -wrong car 3. Chicks - wrong car Regardless of what these so-called, self-proclaimed "tuners" tell you, this car will never be "fast". There is just no way around it, 14 second 1/4 mile passes are not worth dumping thousands of dollars into one of these old civics. Think about it this way, dump thousands into a 93 civic or save those thousands for a down payment on something that is actually worth it. Your choice.

As long as he doesn't excede 40% of his flywheel HP, he should have no problems using NOS. His limit on that engine would be 40-55 HP shot as the D16Z6 is rated at 125. Anything above that is risky, 65 HP required a timing retard of at least 5 degrees; if he maxed out at 75 HP he'd need another 5 degrees of retard added. Sadly though, a LOT of people take slow cars, then add NOS in an attempt to make them fast. That isn't how it works. My sohc vtec is certainly a badass but it didn't get that way fast or cheap. I got the right engine and exchanged parts through normal wear and tear. You can do it if you're patient and know what you're doing.

air up tires to max pressure shown on sidewall. tune it up. dont let it get hot. keep proper coolant mix in it. make sure fans are good. radiator is incredibly tiny, it wont take any problems w cooling system. good radiator cap. blows head gasket as soon as it overheats. radiator is 1/2 inch thick. ridiculous.
