Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1992 Honda Civic hatchback engine stalls after driving and going in idle e.g.
when approaching a traffic light. I thought the idle frequency is too low, but
after turning the ignition key it will NOT stall but keep idling. What is the root
cause?

To clarify: After driving, then going in idle, the car stall within seconds. Then after turning the ignition key immediately thereafter, the car does NOT stall (although car is still warm).

okay you reminded me of a little bugger that just about cost me my job...the "thermo-time switch"~ https://www.google.com/? gws_rd=ssl#q=1992+Honda+Civic+thermo-time+switch

I do not know...was just a guess~ at first I believe the air/fuel mix was bad on account of the temperature...easily replaced on most cars...this one does NOT seem to have a vacuum activated switch for mix based on current motor temp...so am at a loss...a thermo-time switch was the trouble in the past...but would have NO EFFECT on startups...so am going to say I do not know~ sorry!~

I apologize, but I'm having a hard time relating your story aout your lost job, and/or the thermo-switch, to the problem at hand.

the oxygen sensor measures levels of CO CO2, NO2 oxygen and water vapor...and makes it's decisions on how rich to make the mix...so THAT may be our device which is not tellin' the truth~
