If the air bag sensor light stays on is the whole air bag system not working?

2006 Sonata/ Verified error code specifies front right seat sensor has a
problem. Was the air bag system designed so that all other parts are
functioning but the part showing an error code is not functioning?

Front right air bag will not deploy in accident. Does not shut whole system down
