subframe & brakes & muffler

Asked by T Nov 15, 2024 at 10:17 AM about the 2008 Toyota Yaris LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It's old and just wanting average price to replace subframe, rear break lines,
and the muffler...
Being a simple mechanical job...isn't this just a straightforward removal and
replacement?
also need undercoating done to prevent further rust.

The brakes and muffler are simple, everyday, removal and replacement. The subframe, not so much. The subframe basically holds the engine, transmission, and front wheels in place. If the vehicle is rusted to the point where the subframe needs to be replaced it's unsafe and not worth fixing. You'll be better off using the money towards a newer vehicle that doesn't need major repairs. Rust is commonly referred to as "cancer". Over time it continues to spread compromising the vehicle more and more. Jim

Just looking at the picture I would agree with James and scrap it out and get something else.
