I found that I could remove a small cap from the top right corner of the gear display, and press a button to manually remove it from park. I assume it is the solenoid, or the power supplying the solenoid. Is there an easy fix?

You know there is an interlock for the brake switch....you might have a person note whether or not your brake lights are coming on....broken or mis-adjusted brake switch can produce this too~
