What is wrong with my 2003 i4 tiburon?

Asked by Mik_tib776 Apr 04, 2012 at 08:34 PM about the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought this car about 2 days ago. The first day of driving was good and it ran and drove good. Suddenly the car started to just not give out at all. I understand that it is only a 2.0 ltr engine but it wont let me go over 100km in 5th gear. It shifts okay and stuff but when i give it gas in say 3 or 4 gear etc the rpm's go up and the car revs but the car doesent go. There is also a burning smell. Is the clutch? Transmission?

your clutch may not be disengaging all the way. The burning smell could be your clutch and or tranny.Think of it as driving with the clutch pressed halfway in . That's my best guess anyway get it into a garage before you need to do any replacing

Depends who you get to fix it... What country do you live in? i live in the UK so the prices differ a lot

Mik_tib776 is right, it sounds like the clutch isn't releasing. Could be the master cylinder that failed as well. You could try to reset the ECU and see if it's not just accidental limp mode. To do this open the fuse box in the engine bay and pull out the ECU fuse for about 5 min. Then replace it and take it for a drive. If the problem is still there it's the clutch. Sometimes it could even just be air inside the hydraulic system that needed to be bled out.
