2011 ram 1500 tire pressure erratically jumps to 0 psi or 12 psi

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 2011 ram 1500 tire pressure erratically jumps to 0 psi or 12 psi or other
readings. There is full pressure in the tire and the error goes away by itself. it
does not leave an error code only a "Low tire pressure" code that is stored. It
clears itself before I can get it to the dealer. Dealer won't replace it on my
warranty because there is no code to return the part to Chrysler, Do I bite the
bullet and pay for it myself or is there some other way to troubleshoot it in
case the sensor is not the bad part?

Most likely it is the sensor. If you know which one perhaps apply some pressure to the dealership by discussing this with the service manager. You could move the affected tire to another position to see if the problem moves with the tire and wheel. If the problem moves then it is certainly a tire sensor issue. This may require resetting the TPMS system.

Thanks for info Bob. I had tires rotated and sure enough the error moved from right rear to right front. I have discussed this with service manager and he says his hands are tied since there is no error code. What is involved in resetting the TPMS, is it a dealer only thing? Do you know if my spare has a sensor in it. Maybe we could substitute??

Not sure about the reset procedure, if any, on a Ram. Sounds like you have it pretty well isolated and documented. Put some pressure on that service department.
