Car just turned off while I was driving?

the battery needs to be connected at all times...cable loose=no function~ perhaps your battery cables are loose or corroded~

It would be either no gas or no spark. Does your vehicle have a security system? I know on my GM's they have a security system that if all components of it are not working together, it shuts down the fuel system. Watch on dash for security light on or flashing. Another idea is, electric fuel pumps, in my experiences, when my vehicles hit 9 years, I change the fuel pump, period with good ones. I've seen it many times. How old is your vehicle if it is an 07. Even though you need to find out what the problem is. Next time it quits or before listen at the gas tank filler with cap open for fuel pump humming while someone turns the key to the RUN position NOT start it should hum for about 3 seconds. You should be able to hear it as I do. Good Luck.

Just had the same issue! Jeep randomly shut off while driving, loss of steering, and would not turn over when I tried to restart. Happened 4 times. I took it to mopar specialist and it was a sensor and wire that were bad. I drive 2012 jeep compass. Got it fixed last week hasn't shut down yet. Hope this helped

I have a Jeep compass 2018. The car shut off while I was driving, happened for 7 times and I brought to the dealership but unfortunately they told me there was no previous complaint or recall regarding that kind of problem. They told me instead change oil every 6.ooo miles I will have to change every 3.000. And also keeping adding engine oil every thousand miles. I decided contact Jeep manufacturing warranty And also I contact a law firm . Now jeep told me to take the car back for the dealership to have the car checked. I am really concerned to drive this car especially that dosent give you any signs that will shut off I also have a video that shows when the painel of the car shuttle off. That is another issue. Anyway I really hope jeep fix this car and the other ones with the similar problem. Even they had told me there isn't any others . I checked online YES there is others with the same problem. Hope they aren't waiting until someone gets hurt to fix that!

I have a Jeep Compass 2018. It shuts off while driving. I almost got hit by a truck on Highway twice. It shout off several times. Took to dealership and all they keep saying is it is a software bug and can happen anytime. I have a case running against Chrysler. They tried offering me buy back but no Lawyer fee and moreover they gave a different vehicle details in the offer. I rejected it and getting ready to take it to trial. They just don't agree their fault even if it is their fault. I have videos to prove what is happening. Let's hope no one gets injured or something worse happen because of this. That is the main reason I am fighting for. So if you have a Jeep with such issues. You are not alone. There are many Jeep's with the same issue. But not all realize it. My mom has the same problem. It has shut off three times while driving and it will turn back on like five minutes later. She said that the pedal gets so hard that you can’t press it. What can be done? Is a recall going to be happening?

Jeepvictim Have you gone to trial yet? My car literally shut off on me this morning on my way to drop my daughter off at school. I had no idea that this is common amonsgt Jeep Compass owners. This is extremely dangerous. I'm going to contact an attorney as well.

We have gone through approximately 7 mechanics and one dealership, replaced an apparently bad trans-axle, had the front end rebuilt and sensors checked and replaced, plus replacing the "clock-spring" in the module just under the steering wheel. I agree with the person who is suing Chrysler and got the answer " it is a software problem". But why doesn't Chrysler correct it and initiate a recall for it's customers?

At 11,000 miles my Jeep Compass shut down on a curvy road. I was so lucky I didn't get hit. I was told many other vehicles had this problem, as the engines were faulty. I had a rental for a month, while Jeep sourced a new engine. Not a fan!

The same thing is happening to my girlfriends 2015 Jeep Compass. We have taken it to the Jeep/Chrysler dealership twice now. The first time they said they couldn’t find a “code” then they said the same garbage they are telling all of you. They did the recalls and the same issue happened so we had it towed back to the dealership for the second time. Her warranty is about to expire in a month and now after reading this thread and seeing similar issues I think this is a legal issue. There is no way they don’t know what we are talking about when we explain this issue. I feel like they are stalling trying to make our warranty expire. They have had her car for weeks and don’t respond back to our calls. I literally had to show up to the dealership because they wouldn’t respond back to our phone calls. Wtf is wrong with Jeep!??? I honestly think there is something wrong with Jeep vehicles that they are trying to cover up. A few other car companies were found guilty of scandals. Wouldn’t surprise me if Jeep has their own as well.

My 2007 Jeep Compass just started doing the same thing today. Jerked a few times and turned off randomly smack middle of a busy intersection.

Same here 2011 compass Shut off while driving cand be at 120km on higway or 30 in town it shut off ramdonly for jo reason normaly will restart after a few minutes but other time take over 2min And after viewing all the comments inline that is my last jeep or Chrysler ever

I’m having same issue currently with my 2018 Jeep Compass. Last time something similar happened they told me when oil is low Jeep will turn off to protect itself. How dangerous is that! But I recently got oil change, don’t have to change until 20k miles and only have like 18k miles and it began turning off on me again but this time while driving not just when applying brake, very scary for that to happen with children in the car. Company needs to get their act together to issue recall!

2014 Jeep compass just started doing this. It's at 60000 miles. Was driving in the freeway and it just shut off, wouldn't restart, an hour later the tow truck arrived and it started. It was a bit scary as the power steering and brakes went out while going 75. Temperature is fine, has gas, no check engine light, oil change recently within 2000 miles

This just happened to me while driving (the car was not stopped). Going through a roundabout and at the exit of the roundabout the car just shut off. The odds of another jeep compass behind me and stopping and pulling over and coming to my aid and telling me he had the same issue happen to him...... He said when it happened to me I hit the battery clamps with a hammer and it turned back on. He had a hammer in his car and repeated it to my car and voila car turned on. The amount of people having this issue is absurb and a Huge surprise that Chrysler had not done anything. From all the replies on here and numerous other places what the hell are they waiting for. I contacted 3 different dealerships and they claim they have never heard about this issue. We all know now to never trust this brand... Disgusting

Its not just Jeep owners, I have a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T with 5.7L HEMI, it does exact same as all reported here, its been to dealership to to avail after thousands of dollars spent and now my wife's Jeep 2013 Compass is doing it. I reported it to Transport Canada but due to Covid this their lowest priority. I'm taking it to the local news and me next step is lawyer. Everyone please fight this! Its a dangerous situation that will kill. I'll never buy Dodge again or Anything Chrysler or Fiat since they are all one company. Very disappointed in Dodge brand, crap quality. Marvin

2015 jeep compass. yesterday I was at a stop light and it turned green, when I pressed on the gas it slowly started to roll backwards almost hitting the car behind me. steering wheel locked up. had to turn it off and back on again. Same thing happened to me today. Its showing theres a recall for the 2015 jeep compass for the power steering hose clamp incorrectly positioned, but when I enter my VIN its saying mine isn't include, which I don't believe for one second.

Yup. 2018 jeep compass. We have notnknky gone through three sets of tires had the alignment done 5 times (we had a insurance inspector tell us he looked into it and yoh cannot carry more than approx 200lbs or it throws the alignment. But it started with just shuttering and saying it was overheating to full blown shutting down at highway speeds!!. With the brake system light coming on. Hubby had to come rescue me ended up disconnecting the brake system from the battery (?) Before we could even get it to start again. These things are lemon pieces of crap!! I'm lawyering up

Start looking to trade it in, Dodge knows they have the proble but will deny it, they say they couldn't reproduce the problem, I took the dealership mechanic with me in the car for a drive and it happened, he couldn't explain it and you could tell he didn't know what to say, went back to dealership and diagnosis was could not reproduce fault. See if they admit it, just think of the liability and law suits. FIAT CHRYSLER will never admit to this dangerous fault in their products.

Its happen to me to with my jeep compass 2015. Just shut down time completly but restart after few minute. Happen 4 time in a month. No code. We have a 2007 Jeep Compass and it is a manual transmission. This happens to us as well. We could be going 45-50 mph and it feels like it gets thrown into first gear without warning and suddenly jerks us down to 6 mph and shut off. Everything locks up and shuts down too. Mechanics can’t figure it out.

The jeep throw a code like you were in an accident then you can drive the car in first and fifth gear (Automatic transmission). The track control emblems blink on the dash.

Same has happened to me. i was driving home around the corner and the 2015 jeep patriot just turned off on me. i was driving and had to guide the car to the side of the road. this is terrible. whats causing this to happen?
