if the wiring harness is no good can it possibly effect other components ie the ecm or any other sensors i would hate to replace harness and then find out there are other problems

There is a chance it may have damaged the ECU, but the only way to find out is to test it on another car or to replace the harness. Some sensors need a 5 volt reference voltage to work and may be damaged by overvoltage (12 volt for example), it really depends on how and in what way the wiring harness was damaged.
