How much is my car worth if it doesn't run?

Asked by paldri1 May 29, 2016 at 07:41 AM about the 2000 Ford Focus LX

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have had a 2000 Ford Focus for about three years. It only has around 82,000
miles on it, and it drove great. Unfortunately, the engine threw a rod and needs
to be replaced. Along with that, the water pump and timing belt are due to be
replaced, and there's a crack in the windshield. KBB listed the car at about
$1400-1600 trade-in value, but I realize it's not worth nearly that much. I want
to put it on Craigslist just to see if anyone would be interested in doing the
work on it, but I have no idea how much I could get for it (I know it's going to
be a low value). Anyone have any idea what I could sell it for?

cars are made to haul people around- if your car doesn't do that, what is it worth? about as much as a birdbath in the front yard- just fill it up with water and let it sit- the birds will think it is invaluable-

A 2000 Focus with a blown motor and a cracked windshield - is worth squat. It will cost more to fix than it could ever be worth. In my neck of the woods, even 70's land yacht won't fetch 250 at a scrap yard based on their weight as scrap metal. Most places will take it off your hands for the cost of the tow, meaning you won't see a dime. On the other hand, if you have space to store parts, you can strip it yourself - fenders, hood, bumper covers, interior, tires/wheels, engine parts, etc. List them on CL, they'll sell eventually but you might be storing them for a year (or two).

I have a 2004 Red ZTS with a 2.3L zetec engine with a bad Automatic transmission. The body is in great condition and still shines with original paint in Louisville Kentucky. Shoot me a quote and you might get it!
