can anyone help me with this problem?
There is not a bypass, but if you turn the ignition just from the lock position but don't go to the point that the dash lamps come on, at this point the shift interlock will allow you to shift to neutral and other gears with foot on brake
Also: Check to see if your brake lights light up when you press the brakes. If they do, then the problem is with the actuator in the shifter. There is an actuator in the shifter that whenever you press the brakes, it's activated and allows the car to be shifted. If the brake lights don't light up, then it's probably the brake light switch.
Last resort: on the right side of your shifter there should be a small cover about the size of a penny. Use something like a pair of tweezers or a small flat head screwdriver and pop out that cover. That should expose your shift lock over ride button. Just press that button as you are trying to put the car in gear, that should allow you to put the car in gear

There is a way to by pass this. there is a litt;le button cover below the shifter you can pop off. Use your key or a screw driver to push in the button and it will unlock your shifter. You will have to do this every time you put it in park.
i am having this problem also changed the brake light switch but still nothing any suggestions
It starts I push the reset button for the gear shift but once you put your foot on the brake it shuts off
Thanks. These answers helped me. Thank you all
I have a transit connect 2010 I have problems shifting what can I do parking to drive I have to step on brakes lots of times
Thanks, I had heard that these types of problems could occur with the shifter. Mine was stuck in 'Park.' I took the gear shift cover screw out and attempted to move it up and down. That didn't help. I put it back together and then read the reset cover. After a few attempts, it worked. I drove it around the block. I was able to shift normally ever since. Easy fix no cost! So thankful for finding this site!!!! THANKS Y'ALL!!!!
I have been bypassing the gear shift "safety mechanism" for weeks, using the screwdriver in the slot method. We finally scheduled an appt. at the dealer. I thought it would just need a new relay or a solenoid. I was shocked when the dealer repair "writer" said it would be $470 and that he would have to send for a new shifter assembly, and it would take two days to repair. My car has been running well for years, although I drive it very little. I've had some brake work done, but very little else. I tried to find out if there are Technical Service Bulletins put out about this "stuck in park" problem, but couldn't find one, specifically for my 2002 Ford Focus with just over 25,000 miles on it. I know it's not a fuse, as my brake lights work. I just don't trust that I need an entirely new shifter assembly, because when I bypass the shift interlock safety feature, the car shifts just fine.
the only way I can get mine to work is to get under the shifter cover and take the cable off the cable is keeping the plastic actuator on holding the shifter from shifting but besure to still put your foot on pedal while shifting because this is your safety lock.

Try brake switch relay above pedal. If brake light is not lighting up this switch is the culprit. It's just above brake pedal. Cost is $23 from Amazon.

Both switches above brake pedal & mounted on its bracket, per bolt-ohm meter are ok. I removed both and tested w/ ohm meter. Where is solenoid located? Merc in AK
I have a 2012 Fusion it says my car is in Reverse my shifter is in park and it won't move
There are two grounds on the passenger side behide the kick panel. Mine were corroded and after fixing that it fixed the problem.

I used the bypass button with a screwdriver today. It worked. I also left it in neutral with the parking brake on so that I don't have to go through that hassle to get it out of park again. I ordered a brake switch for it today since that happened with my old car and that's what fixed it. However, I read on here that if the brake lights work that it is probably the actuator and not the brake switch or stop light switch as they call it. The brake switch was about $18 at the parts store today, and it will be here in 2 days. The actuator was $55, and it sounds like that might be the problem, but I am going to try the cheaper route first, especially since my old car had the same problem and the part back then for the brake switch was only $10 and was easily plugged in by the brake pedal at that time.

My answer is above with someone else's name on it
I have a 2018 sport fusion, I had this issue two ties already. The first time the knob got stuck in parking and got a message "see manual" i called road assistance and they gave me several "solutions" eventually, after trying turning the wheel, the knob got released and was able to shift gears, later on at service shop they told me that I wasn't supposed to do anything because the computer resets and they have no way of knowing what went wrong, in the end, they told me "it was nothing". The second time was yesterday, this time I got a "Power train System Fault" on the app, which refers to a power train or four-wheel drive fault. The car is now at service and trying to figure out what the problem is, fact is, it seems that they do not know how to handle issues like this, on one side they instruct to "try several ways", on the other side they instruct "not to do anything", still problem is unknown/unsolved.
In the case of my 2014 Fiesta, the brake lights are also knocked out, so while I can get it in Drive by pressing the override with a screwdriver, the car is not road safe. I've had this problem four times now, the first fix was about $500 (diagnostics, switch replacement), then a week later it happened again - only $150 labour that time. The next week, they changed to a different (Ford original) part and didn't charge me. That lasted almost a week, now it's back in again.
I started having an issue getting my 2009 ford focus out of park when starting the car. One day I start the car and it has all these error lights lit up on the dash, including the e brake (when e brake is not engaged) and the OD light and it won't shift out of park. I try using the little emergency override tab next to the shift stick, to no luck. I start the car and put a concrete block on the brake pedal to depress it and go to the back to check if brake lights are working - they are. I checked the brake and shifter fuses, they both seem to be fine and after removing and inserting the shift fuse - the car starts and shifts out of park again. I have been having this problem about 30% of the time I try to shift out of park for 4 months now. My original Ford dealer still doesn't know what the problem is. I leave it in neutral sometimes when parked when I can, to avoid the whole debacle upon starting the car, but this is not ideal. I would like to get it fixed quickly before something else gets ruined with this ongoing malfunction. Do I need to replace the entire gear shift assembly?

I'm driving an older Ford Focus and while I think it's a decent car, this particular issue has me baffled. For the first year that I drove the car I heard the "click" when the shifter solenoid would move and I thought to myself "So, if this solenoid fails than I'm going to have a perfectly working car that I'm not able to shift out of park. Let's hope that doesn't happen." Long behold out of all the moving parts that could have had a problem, this is what I ended up with. It was also extremely irritating the first time I tried to put gasoline into the car using a portable container (during the start of a viral pandemic, nonetheless). I actually had to google how to fill the car up after spilling far too much gasoline all over the place.
