AC on 2000 ford focus

the ac on my 2000 ford focus works on settings 2 and three but not one and four. the
green light comes on two and three but not one and two. the nob does seem to work a bit
harder on one and four. I did replace the resistor but that did not help

It's the relay. Relay is located behind glove box. Open glove box squeeze sides together and the box will swing down giving access under dashboard. If you're sitting in passenger seat put your left hand out and reach for the space where the glove box was (now that you've swung it down) when your left hand touches inside of dashboard you should be within a couple inches of the relay.
