Maf sensor unplugged car run better but not like it did.

Asked by GuruZG5XZ Dec 12, 2017 at 10:17 PM about the 2001 INFINITI I30 Luxury FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When the mass air flow sensor is plugged in the
car will stall. When you try to give it a little gas to
keep it from dying it's seem like it's not getting any
gas at all. When the maf is unplugged the car will
idle and not die but when you drive it it will not take
off fast or even a normal speed it very slowly gets
up to speed even if you press the pedal more. Also
if you give it to much gas it will start to like 'jump'
seems like its going to bog out if you let off the gas
pedal quick it will continue to very slowly go. I have
been able to get it to go more then 60 mph though
with out it seeming like it's bogging out!? Im
wondering if a new maf sensor fix it or if it's going
to be something else as well. The maf sensor is
pretty expensive so if that not going to fix it I want
to find what will and hopefully fix that first.

Hi, in my experience, what you are describing are the symptoms of a bad MAF. When you unplug it, the ECM uses default values to do its computations. That’s why it runs better without the bad MAF, but not as good as when the MAF was good. Swap the MAF. I’m positive that will resolve your issue.
