My car won't stay running unless given gas

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2000 Ford Focus wagon. The starter is fine but the vehicle will not stay running unless fuel is given. When it does get fuel it runs pretty well. A little shaky at times.

this is one that will take a little time to diagnose. the first place i would start is looking for vacuum leaks. turn your engine on, have someone give it gas so it will stay running, raise the hood and listen for hissing noises. a lot of times it will be a dry rotted hose. methinks since your car wont even run unless given gas it would be hissing if it were a vacuum leak. also your idle control valve may be bad. there really isnt an easy way to test that being as its between the intake manifold and the engine block. however if you can get to it to unplug it and the car stays on while its unplugged, its toast. but if you dont have an engine light its kinda hard to tell what exactly is causing the issue.

Thank you sooo much. You have been wonderful!
make sure your fuel filter is clear. also, this makes me think your electronic fuel injection may need to be tweaked due to idle injection too low? couple of ideas to consider.
always a pleasure to help out a fellow focus owner! I really hope you enjoy the car! btw here is a very helpful forum: http://forums.focaljet.com/
Check the PCV Valve. Simple, easy fix.

That 2013 focus may be no fire! One easy 20 dollar fix. !!Crank senior!!they have been going out on a lot of vehicles.. my truck would start up an run for a few sec.. then die.. I went threw 500$ in 3 days. Don't do that.
