My 1997 Hyundai Sonata is leaking transmission fluid...is it possible that it was overfilled? And I need to take it to the mechanic...how safe is it to drive? Any suggestions on how much to fix?

Did you verify that it is tranny oil and not motor oil? How fast/slow or steady is leaking? If it is tranny oil and it is leaking steady you may burn out the tranny. I had a dealer adjust a tranny hose nut going into the radiator on my '99 and broke it and didn't tell me. I left the dealer with a steady leak and about a mile or so down the road my gear were grinding...I had the bastards give me a new tranny..it was still under warranty too. As tommy said, if it coming from the pan, then it is the seal or loos bolts...zero to fix that...thousands to replace tranny.
